How SpamFoo Classifies Email

Every message is checked in four steps on your own mail server, backed by domain reputation from the SpamFoo network.

SpamFoo network

Keeps track of which sending domains can be trusted, based on what servers across the network see.

Your mail server
  1. A message arrives

SpamFoo runs inside your mail server and sees new mail as it lands. The message is not sent anywhere to be scanned.

  2. Your rules and known threats

It checks the sender's domain reputation, dangerous links, impersonation, and lookalike domains, and applies the allow and block lists your team sets.

  3. Read by AI on your server

Small AI models on your own hardware look at who sent it, how it was sent, and what it says. They run on standard CPUs, and a GPU is optional.

  4. Sorted

Spam is kept out of the inbox. Everything else gets a classification.

    • Spam
    • Inbox
      • Primary
      • Transactions
      • Updates
      • Promotions

Everything inside the dotted line runs on your mail server. Your server keeps a copy of the reputation data and only asks the network about senders it has not seen before.

Your email stays put

Messages are classified on the server they arrive at, and attachments are never sent.

Learns how each person sorts mail

When someone moves a message, the correction takes effect for them right away. Over time SpamFoo learns each person's preferences, so their inbox is sorted the way they want it.

Keeps working offline

If your connection drops, SpamFoo keeps classifying with the models and reputation data already on your server.
